ThescientificcommunityhaspaidlittleattentiontoSaharanwildlife.Almostnobodyknowsaboutthesandcat(Felismargarita),forexample.Thisbeautifulanimalhighlightsthechallengesthatallecologicalresearchfacesinhostileandremoteenvironments,suchastheSahara.MycolleaguesandIhavepublishedtheonlyscientificestimateofthesandcat’sabundance(J.M.Gil-Sánchezetal.Eur.J.Wildl.Res.69,20;2023).
